Matterhorn Climb 4478m
Matterhorn Ascent via Hörnli Ridge (4478 m) from Hotel in Zermatt – Exclusive, Personal, Unforgettable
The Matterhorn ascent is one of the greatest classics in the Alps. The iconic peak above Zermatt attracts climbers from all over the world. My guided Matterhorn climb via the Hörnli Ridge offers you an exclusive alternative to the usual crowds: no pushing, no overnight stay in a hut – instead, comfort, peace, and personal 1:1 support from me.
You stay overnight at a hotel in Zermatt and start the next morning with the cable car to Schwarzsee. Thanks to our deliberately late start, we avoid the typical congestion on the Hörnli Ridge. The return from Schwarzsee to Zermatt is by mountain bike – making the descent an experience in itself. Everything is organized, so you can fully focus on your Matterhorn ascent.

Tour Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival and Preparation
You arrive in Zermatt in the afternoon and we check into the hotel together. A detailed gear check ensures everything is ready – equipment, weather, conditions, and tour plan. We enjoy a relaxed dinner together before you rest in your room. A quiet night in a hotel instead of a mountain hut gives you the focus and energy needed for the summit day.
Day 2 – Ascent from Schwarzsee
At 08:00 we take the first cable car to Schwarzsee. Your bike travels with us and will be waiting for the descent. We climb the Hörnli Ridge, gaining around 1,400 vertical meters – technical climbing up to grade III, combined with stunning views and full concentration. The summit of the Matterhorn (4478 m) is our goal – and the moment on top will be unforgettable. Chances are, we’ll have the summit all to ourselves. We descend via the same route, then return to Zermatt by mountain bike – a fast and fun finish to a big day.
Requirements
To join the Matterhorn climb, you should meet the following requirements:
Excellent physical fitness for about 1,400 vertical meters of ascent and descent
Rock climbing experience up to grade III
Confident crampon use, sure-footedness, and a head for heights
Recommended Preparation Tours
To increase your chances of success and enjoyment, I recommend one or more alpine preparation tours for acclimatization and technical readiness. Also, train downclimbing in mixed terrain.
Riffelhorn – perfect for practicing rock climbing technique
Rimpfischhorn – ideal for acclimatization and mixed climbing
These tours prepare you optimally for the demands of the Hörnli Ridge.
